Located in an exceptional natural setting, nestled between vineyards and Mediterranean forest, Roquebrune Golf is a true refuge for local wildlife and flora. Spanning approximately 35 to 40 hectares and surrounded by the Maures mountain range, this course stands out for its rich biodiversity. Preserving this environment is at the heart of our daily actions, with a strong commitment to balancing course maintenance and respect for nature.
A Rich and Varied Biodiversity
As part of our partnership with Auddicé Environnement and our effort to achieve the Silver label in the Golf for Biodiversity program, we have cataloged 117 plant species and 135 animal species, including 58 bird species. Among these, several are considered of heritage significance and deserve special attention:
- The Sardinian Warbler (Sylvia melanocephala), a Mediterranean bird commonly found on our course.
- The Mediterranean Tree Frog (Hyla meridionalis), an iconic amphibian of wetland areas.
- The Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio machaon), a remarkable butterfly that thrives in our meadows.
- The Violet Dropwing (Trithemis annulata), a dragonfly typical of aquatic environments.
This biodiversity highlights the quality of the natural habitats we actively protect and our efforts to promote their expansion.
Concrete Actions for Biodiversity
Our commitment to biodiversity is reflected through concrete actions aimed at enhancing the presence of local wildlife and flora while minimizing our environmental impact:
- Differentiated space management: Certain areas of the course benefit from late mowing, allowing the flora to regenerate and providing a refuge for wildlife, especially insects and birds.
- Protection of wetland areas: The banks of water points are left with tall grass, creating habitats for birds and aquatic species.
- Ecological corridors: We have established protected passages to allow wildlife to move freely across the estate, promoting ecosystem connectivity and the preservation of animal populations.
Replanting and Combating Invasive Species
To ensure the sustainability of local ecosystems, Roquebrune Golf has launched a replanting program with local species adapted to future climatic conditions. This initiative not only strengthens plant diversity but also encourages the development of new habitats for local wildlife. At the same time, we are actively combating invasive exotic species, such as certain invasive plants, to protect endemic species and maintain the ecological balance of our estate.

Birdhouses and Insect Hotels
As part of our participatory approach, our young golfers are involved in the creation of birdhouses and insect hotels. These structures, placed in various areas of the course, provide habitats for birds and pollinating insects, which are essential for preserving biodiversity. These workshops, supervised by our greenkeeper Florian Maldonado, raise awareness among the younger generation about the importance of nature and their role in its protection.
A Nature-Respecting Experience
Beyond these initiatives, every visitor can enjoy a unique golfing experience in the heart of nature. Whether encountering free-roaming sheep that help maintain the course or admiring the poppies that bloom naturally on the roughs, everything is designed to harmonize respect for nature with the elegance of the game.
We believe that each of these actions contributes to protecting our environment and enhancing the natural heritage that defines the beauty of Roquebrune Golf.
